Automobili Lamborghini owners celebrate privilege of Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 ownership

Exclusive customer journey through art and experience

Sant’Agata Bolognese, 6 July 2022 – As the 112 Countach LPI 800-4 owners-to-be around the world start to take delivery of their new cars from April 2022, they are also enjoying a series of exclusive ownership and experiential elements to mark ownership of a car that is one of the most emblematic few-offs in the history of Lamborghini.

 Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4

Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4

Lamborghini’s commitment to the purchasing experience is, as always, more than just waiting for delivery of a new car, and has created a contact program designed to make the customer experience unique and complete.

The 112 owners of the Countach LPI 800-4, which was already sold out before the official launch last August at Pebble Beach, will not only have the privilege of driving a piece of automotive history reinvented for the future, but will also receive a series of special collectors’ item gifts, which make delivery of the car even more memorable. Each item is certified and numbered, celebrating skilled craftsmanship and innovation: the items are not for sale, and are dedicated and delivered exclusively to Countach LPI 800-4 customers.

On signing their order, owners of the Countach LPI 800-4 received a congratulatory letter from Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. A collectors’ item in its own right, the elegant letter’s papermaking techniques feature an intricate interplay of laser-engraved solids and voids, constructing and deconstructing the silhouette of the Countach LPI 800-4, and bearing the CEO’s message of sincere congratulations.

In the initial months of waiting, Countach LPI 800-4 customers received one of 112 numbered replicas of an exclusive painting created, as per tradition, by Mateusz Wowk, exterior designer and artist at Lamborghini’s Centro Stile, led by the Head of Design, Mitja Borkert. With the original work created on a large canvas in Sant’Agata Bolognese, the painting was digitally captured using gigapixel technology: one of the most advanced digital acquisition technologies adopted by museums. The work was then replicated in large format on canvas to reproduce the typical materiality of Mateusz’s brushstrokes and a classic example, typical of Lamborghini, in which art takes shape through ultra-high-tech processes.

Countach LPI 800-4 owners enjoy the further anticipation of receiving further unique items via the Lamborghini dealer network, involving internationally renowned artists as well as Italian artisans who represent the pinnacle of Italian creativity: Lamborghini enthusiasts can also share the pleasure of these works of art, on wheels or otherwise, through the social media posts that Lamborghini owners generously delight in sharing.

Lamborghini Countach LP 500 turns 50 years old on March 11, 2021

Sant’Agata Bolognese, March 11, 2021 – Exactly 50 years ago at the Geneva Motor Show, the undisputed star of the event was introduced: the Lamborghini Countach LP 500 in yellow. At ten o’clock in the morning in the exhibition space of Carrozzeria Bertone, this prototype made its first public appearance.

Its unveil was so successful that the company raced against time to satisfy the customers’ requests and transform the futuristic show car into a production car, though in a small series. The decision to unveil the Countach LP 500 in Carrozzeria Bertone’s space was motivated by the fact that Lamborghini’s stand featured the latest arrival of the House of the Raging Bull: the Miura SV, perfected after five years of production. With this double presentation, Lamborghini communicated and confirmed its prowess not only in production but especially in innovation, to the extent that in the months following Geneva, the Countach LP 500 was featured in all the international automotive magazines.

The Countach project, with internal code number LP112, where LP indicates the rear longitudinal position (“Longitudinale Posteriore” in Italian) of the 12-cylinder engine, stemmed from Ferruccio Lamborghini’s desire to maintain the image of a company at the forefront of style and technology following the Miura.

Heading up this record-breaking achievement was engineer Paolo Stanzani, who had been with Lamborghini since 1963, and in 1968 was named General Manager and Technical Director, responsible for the mechanical part of the Countach.

The beautiful, clean, futuristic lines of the Countach, still so after 50 years, were styled by Marcello Gandini, Design Director of Carrozzeria Bertone. Gandini was also responsible for the decision to use the scissor doors, which since that time have characterized the production of Lamborghini’s 12-cylinder models. The LP 500 was a substantially different car than the Countach that would go into production in 1974. It had a platform frame rather than a tubular one, it was equipped with a 12-cylinder 4971cc engine (one of a kind), the engine air intakes had a shark gill design, and inside it featured sophisticated electronic instrumentation.

The origin of the name of this car lies in the dialect of the Piedmont region. In its final stages of assembly, the car was hidden in a shed for agricultural machinery on a farm near Grugliasco (province of Turin) to avoid possible work stoppages related to labor unrest, and was “discovered” by a farmer who exclaimed in amazement and enthusiasm, “Countach!” (a word in Piedmontese dialect expressing wonderment). When Piedmont-born Marcello Gandini became aware of the fact, he thought that this word had a particularly strong communicative force and also convinced Nuccio Bertone, Ferruccio Lamborghini and his colleague Paolo Stanzani of this.

Following the LP 500’s success in Geneva, Lamborghini’s chief test driver Bob Wallace used the car, equipped with a more reliable 4-liter engine, for every possible kind of road test. The career of this extraordinary car ended at the beginning of 1974, when it was used for the crash tests required for the homologation of the production car and subsequently scrapped.

From 1974 to 1990, 1,999 Countachs in five different series were produced, representing a model that, in addition to ending up displayed on the bedroom walls of an entire generation and being used in dozens of films, allowed Lamborghini to survive the most difficult years of its history and to enter permanently into the halls of legend.

Lamborghini Polo Storico

Opened in 2015, Lamborghini Polo Storico is an Automobili Lamborghini department dedicated to preserving the heritage of the company from Sant’Agata Bolognese. The restoration and certification of all Lamborghini cars produced up to 2001 are just part of the work done by Polo Storico. It also carries out the reconstruction of spare parts for vintage Lamborghinis, with some 200 new codes introduced every year, and the preservation and management of the archive, activities with which Lamborghini Polo Storico aims to support the preservation of classic Lamborghini vehicles.

BUGATTI President Stephan Winkelmann looks back on 2020

BUGATTI PRESIDENT STEPHAN WINKELMANN LOOKS BACK ON 2020

Bugatti is still in the fast lane. The French manufacturer of luxury cars increased its operating results for the third consecutive year. Bugatti can therefore look back on the most successful year in its history.

“2020 was without a doubt the most unusual year for all of us. The coronavirus pandemic brought so much to a halt and caused enormous disruption to our everyday lives. I’m happy that our workforce and most Bugatti enthusiasts have so far made it through this difficult period and have managed to overcome these challenges extremely well,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti. “I’m very proud that, despite the difficult circumstances, we have been able to achieve our third record-breaking year in a row. For this I would like to thank the entire staff. What’s more, with the first customers receiving deliveries of the Divo1, we kept our promise of bringing a modern interpretation of the historic coachbuilding tradition to the road.”

Coachbuilding is all about creating customised cars for individual tastes. The Divo, a limited edition of just 40 vehicles, is a highly customised masterpiece of automotive craftsmanship and a must-have for any Bugatti collection. The hyper sports car, which is priced at five million euros (net), is named after Albert Divo, a French pilot and racing driver who was also a Bugatti works driver for quite some time.

“Unfortunately the Bugatti team were not able to meet fans and friends of the brand in person nearly as much as they would have liked due to the pandemic. Therefore, we are now using digital platforms to maintain contact with Bugatti owners and friends of the brand,” explains Stephan Winkelmann. “During the few lockdown-free months, Bugatti customers finally had the opportunity to experience the new ChironPur Sport for themselves. The entire team was delighted by the extremely positive feedback on the new hyper sports car, which gave them affirmation and motivation for their work.”

Bugatti has calibrated the Chiron Pur Sport for agility, handling and driving performance. An ideal car for drivers who like to take corners at the limits of lateral dynamics. The Chiron Pur Sport is an extremely precise hyper sports car for the race track and country roads, and offers maximum driving enjoyment. Production of the standard version of the Chiron Pur Sport, which is limited to 60 units and priced at three million euros (net), began in autumn 2020 in Molsheim, France.

In October, Bugatti presented the Bolide, an extreme, race track-oriented hyper sports car with an unprecedented power-to-weight ratio of just 0.67 kg/PS. A power output of up to 1,850 PS from the W16 engine meets an unladen weight of just 1,240 kilogrammes. This technological concept represents the brand in its purest form, with its impressively high performance, low weight and a driving experience in a new dimension. “Bugatti is continuously aiming for new and exciting goals. The Bolide is the quintessence of our philosophy. Excellence, courage, dedication. An incredible car and an incredible project,” says Stephan Winkelmann.

Bugatti has special plans in store for 2021. All 40 Divo will be delivered to customers in the coming months. It will certainly be both a wonderful and a sad moment when the last Divo leaves the Atelier in Molsheim. Most of the Chiron Pur Sport, designed for lateral acceleration, will also be delivered to their owners. Following the launch of Bugatti’s La Voiture Noire in March 2019, the French manufacturer will finally bring the world’s most exclusive and expensive car to completion.

“2021 is set to be a particularly challenging year for me personally. In addition to my role as President of Bugatti, I also took on the position of President of Lamborghini in December 2020. However, this is an undertaking that is close to my heart, as Lamborghini builds the most exclusive super sports cars with outstanding design. Bugatti, on the other hand, is synonymous with the most extraordinary, powerful and elegant hyper sports cars in the world. My focus will therefore remain in Molsheim in 2021, too.”

You can look forward to an exciting 2021 together with the entire Bugatti team. We hope that this will be a year with more face-to-face meetings and plenty of time for conversation. Vive la Marque!

Lamborghini SC20: the unique open-top track car by Squadra Corse

  • Unique open-top model with V12 engine by Lamborghini Squadra Corse
  • Carbon fiber body featuring racing aerodynamics
  • Innovative design by Lamborghini Centro Stile

Sant’Agata Bolognese, 16 December 2020 – Lamborghini Squadra Corse presents the SC20, a unique specimen of an open-top track car type-approved for road use. The SC20 is the second one-off engineered by the motorsport department and designed by Centro Stile in Sant’Agata Bolognese: the car was created following the customer’s wishes, who was involved in the project from the very first drawings by Lamborghini’s designers.

The common goal was to build a unique vehicle, extreme in its design and performance, and able to combine aerodynamic solutions taken from racing Lamborghinis incorporating unprecedented lines and exclusive details. “Two years after the SC18 Alston, the SC20 was a new, intriguing challenge. The chief sources of inspiration were the Diablo VT Roadster, Aventador J, Veneno Roadster and Concept S, and the result is a dramatic combination of creativity and racing attitude,” commented Mitja Borkert, Head of Design Lamborghini Centro Stile.

The carbon fiber body was polished and slicked down by hand by the Lamborghini aerodynamic engineers to deliver optimal airflow for both performance and the cockpit’s occupants, ensuring comfortable open-air driving even at high speeds. The pronounced front splitter is framed by two fins and the air intakes on the front hood are inspired by those of the Huracán GT3 EVO, while the sculpted body sides reflect the solutions adopted on the Essenza SCV12. The muscular rear is topped by a large carbon fiber wing that can be set in three different positions: Low, Medium and High Load.

The SC20 features exclusive details starting from the body colors on a Bianco Fu (white) base, created for the customer, on which the Blu Cepheus (blue) livery stands out. The same shade is found in the interior, alternating with Nero Cosmus (black) and Bianco Leda (white). The most significant element of the passenger compartment is the visible carbon fiber used for the dashboard cover, rear wall, door panels, center console and steering wheel trim, in addition to the monocoque. Carbon fiber is also used for the shells of the seats upholstered in Alcantara and leather. The door handles on the other hand, are machined from solid aluminum. Lastly, the air vents are created using 3D printing technology at the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory.

Maurizio Reggiani, Chief Technical Officer of Automobili Lamborghini, stated, “The SC20 is a combination of sophisticated engineering, Italian craftsmanship, sportiness and advanced design. It is also an example of applying our V12 engine and carbon fiber to a radical open-top vehicle that unmistakably carries the Lamborghini DNA.”

Its engine is based on Lamborghini’s flagship V12: the 6,498 cm3 aspirated twelve-cylinder that delivers 770 CV at 8,500 rpm and develops 720 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. It is managed through the optimized seven-speed Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) gearbox. The power is discharged to the ground by the four-wheel drive system with central electronic differential, and the Pirelli PZero Corsa tires are mounted on single-nut aluminum rims, 20 inches in front and 21 inches at the rear.

Giorgio Sanna, Head of Lamborghini Motorsport, commented, “The SC20 is one more technical and styling exercise that associates Squadra Corse experience with Lamborghini design, masterfully interpreted by our Centro Stile based on the customer’s wishes, which was the focus of the project during the entire vehicle development and construction process.”
