Bugatti has achieved another record-breaking year – the best in the company’s history
Bugatti is still in the fast lane. The French manufacturer of luxury cars increased its operating results for the third consecutive year. Bugatti can therefore look back on the most successful year in its history.
“2020 was without a doubt the most unusual year for all of us. The coronavirus pandemic brought so much to a halt and caused enormous disruption to our everyday lives. I’m happy that our workforce and most Bugatti enthusiasts have so far made it through this difficult period and have managed to overcome these challenges extremely well,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti. “I’m very proud that, despite the difficult circumstances, we have been able to achieve our third record-breaking year in a row. For this I would like to thank the entire staff. What’s more, with the first customers receiving deliveries of the Divo1, we kept our promise of bringing a modern interpretation of the historic coachbuilding tradition to the road.”
Coachbuilding is all about creating customised cars for individual tastes. The Divo, a limited edition of just 40 vehicles, is a highly customised masterpiece of automotive craftsmanship and a must-have for any Bugatti collection. The hyper sports car, which is priced at five million euros (net), is named after Albert Divo, a French pilot and racing driver who was also a Bugatti works driver for quite some time.
“Unfortunately the Bugatti team were not able to meet fans and friends of the brand in person nearly as much as they would have liked due to the pandemic. Therefore, we are now using digital platforms to maintain contact with Bugatti owners and friends of the brand,” explains Stephan Winkelmann. “During the few lockdown-free months, Bugatti customers finally had the opportunity to experience the new ChironPur Sport for themselves. The entire team was delighted by the extremely positive feedback on the new hyper sports car, which gave them affirmation and motivation for their work.”
Bugatti has calibrated the Chiron Pur Sport for agility, handling and driving performance. An ideal car for drivers who like to take corners at the limits of lateral dynamics. The Chiron Pur Sport is an extremely precise hyper sports car for the race track and country roads, and offers maximum driving enjoyment. Production of the standard version of the Chiron Pur Sport, which is limited to 60 units and priced at three million euros (net), began in autumn 2020 in Molsheim, France.
In October, Bugatti presented the Bolide, an extreme, race track-oriented hyper sports car with an unprecedented power-to-weight ratio of just 0.67 kg/PS. A power output of up to 1,850 PS from the W16 engine meets an unladen weight of just 1,240 kilogrammes. This technological concept represents the brand in its purest form, with its impressively high performance, low weight and a driving experience in a new dimension. “Bugatti is continuously aiming for new and exciting goals. The Bolide is the quintessence of our philosophy. Excellence, courage, dedication. An incredible car and an incredible project,” says Stephan Winkelmann.
Bugatti has special plans in store for 2021. All 40 Divo will be delivered to customers in the coming months. It will certainly be both a wonderful and a sad moment when the last Divo leaves the Atelier in Molsheim. Most of the Chiron Pur Sport, designed for lateral acceleration, will also be delivered to their owners. Following the launch of Bugatti’s La Voiture Noire in March 2019, the French manufacturer will finally bring the world’s most exclusive and expensive car to completion.
“2021 is set to be a particularly challenging year for me personally. In addition to my role as President of Bugatti, I also took on the position of President of Lamborghini in December 2020. However, this is an undertaking that is close to my heart, as Lamborghini builds the most exclusive super sports cars with outstanding design. Bugatti, on the other hand, is synonymous with the most extraordinary, powerful and elegant hyper sports cars in the world. My focus will therefore remain in Molsheim in 2021, too.”
You can look forward to an exciting 2021 together with the entire Bugatti team. We hope that this will be a year with more face-to-face meetings and plenty of time for conversation. Vive la Marque!

]]>ZHA to build Tower C at Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base
Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) was announced as the winner of the design competition to build Tower C at Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base.
Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base will be an important business and financial centre in Shenzhen serving the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau; integrating clusters of corporate headquarters within a global technology hub accommodating 300,000 employees each day. Including venues for international conferences, exhibitions, cultural and art programmes, the headquarters base will incorporate residential developments, a transportation centre, botanical grasslands, and coastal zone with wetlands.
Tower C by Zaha Hadid Architects within the Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base responds to its location at the intersection of the city’s planned north-south green axis and Shenzhen’s east-west urban corridor. Connecting directly with its adjacent park and plazas which transform into a terraced landscape extending upwards within its two towers, the design invites the public into the heart of the building where cultural and leisure attractions are housed in sweeping bridges that tie the towers together and give panoramic views of the city.
Served by the expanding Shenzhen Metro network, Tower C’s stepped podium integrates with the park to create a new public space for this dynamic city that has grown to become a global centre of technology innovation. Uniting the park’s landscapes with the civic plazas of the tower’s lower levels provides direct pedestrian access and daylight to the public transport interchange below ground. Prioritising pedestrians, the tower’s design also includes extensive bicycle parking and charging facilities.
Informed by 3D modelling tools developed by ZHA that optimise efficiencies in architectural massing, orientation and facade-to-floor ratios, Tower C’s design is a multi-dimensional vertical city of two towers at nearly 400m, providing column-free naturally-lit office space, shopping, entertainment and dining amenities, together with a hotel, convention centre and cultural facilities with exhibition galleries.
The double-insulated, unitised glass curtain wall of Tower C’s design steps the glazing as vertical channels for self-shading and incorporates ventilating registers within the channels that draw outside air through operable cavities; providing natural and hybrid ventilation with very effective environmental control for each floor.
Connected with the district’s smart management systems that continually monitor external and interior conditions, indoor environmental controls will adjust in real time to reduce energy consumption with high-efficiency equipment and chiller plant optimisation within the district’s central networks. The design will also incorporate water-collection and recycling as well as photovoltaics to harvest solar energy for the district.
Aquaponics gardens on all terraced levels will biologically filter contaminants from the local environment and low-volatile organic compound materials will be installed to minimise indoor pollutants and particulates. Continuing the district’s ambitions for optimal integration throughout all aspects of the development to increase efficiencies and well-being, Tower C’s procurement will also target embodied carbon reductions and recycled materials.
The design of Tower C integrates the city and nature within its central green axis with the transit orientated development (TOD) of Shenzhen’s new spine, creating a ‘superscape’ that will become a tower of the future within the Super Headquarters Base.

Swiss Haute Horlogerie meets Chinese zodiac tradition
Steeped in the aesthetic codes of Chinese culture, the L.U.C XP Urushi Spirit of Shí Chen is the first L.U.C timepiece to display the traditional Chinese timekeeping system, Shí Chen. The animals of the zodiac that symbolises them parade slowly by on an Urushi lacquer disc, accompanied by the symbol of prosperity and its god Lu Xing. This creative new complication exists as an 88-piece limited edition. Its L.U.C 96.29-L Chopard Manufacture movement is housed in a 40 mm ethical 18-carat rose gold case of peerless symbolic and physical finesse.
Carved from a block of ethical 18-carat rose gold, the L.U.C XP Urushi Spirit of Shí Chen is a talisman timepiece, an allegory of beliefs related to the Chinese zodiac and luck. It represents the first time that an Haute Horlogerie watch displays Shí Chen, the traditional Chinese time system, as a complication. It consists of twelve two-hour units, each one represented by an animal from the zodiac cycle. The day thus begins at 11pm with the hour of the Rat and ends with the hour of the Pig, while noon is in the middle of the hour of the Horse.
chopard L.U.C XP Urushi Spirit of Shí Chen
The Chinese zodiac bestiary enhanced by the art of Urushi
The procession of 12 animals slowly parades through a large aperture at 12 o’clock, enabling a dual time read-off: one traditional and the other based on the international system. This succession of zodiac signs also underlines the creativity and mastery of the Chopard Manufacture artisans. In addition, the dial and Shí Chen disc of this timepiece are made of Japanese lacquer. Faithful to Asian traditions, Chopard has worked right from the start with the finest Japanese lacquer artisans, who craft dials using the traditional Urushi lacquer technique.
The 88 dials of the L.U.C XP Urushi Spirit of Shí Chen are produced by the workshops of the century-old Yamada Heiando company and crafted by Master lacquer specialist Minori Koizumi. In accordance with the distinctive Maki-e technique, gold flakes sprinkled between the layers of lacquer illuminate the 40 mm ethical 18-carat rose gold case from within.
A creation placed under the protection of the god of prosperity
At the centre of the L.U.C XP Urushi Spirit of Shí Chen dial is the golden, embossed emblem of the god Lu Ying, who is one of the three deities – together with Fu Xing and Shou Xing – respectively dedicated to prosperity, happiness and longevity, symbolically summing up the characteristics of a full life. This star of prosperity also refers to fame and influence and is an omnipresent sign in Chinese culture, where auspices, symbols and representations playing on the nature of ideograms are essential.
A timepiece endowed with great technical refinement
To equip the L.U.C XP Urushi Spirit of Shí Chen, Chopard has created the L.U.C 96.29-L calibre, an exclusive variation of the 96 family, featuring a disc that completes a full rotation in 24 hours. This mechanical movement with automatic winding is just 3.97 mm thick thanks to its micro-rotor, a small oscillating weight neatly integrated into the calibre. Made of ethical 22-carat gold, it boasts high inertia enabling it to wind the two barrels efficiently. The latter are stacked in accordance with Chopard Twin Technology and are capable of storing the energy necessary for the L.U.C XP Urushi Spirit of Shí Chen to offer a total 65-hour power reserve. Once off the wrist, it will remain on time and accurate for more than two and a half days, the duration of a long weekend.

This 1967 Ford Mustang “Eleanor” has the fleet number # 7 and was specially manufactured by Cinema Vehicle Services for the blockbuster flick “Just 60 seconds” with Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie in the leading roles in 2000.
Our “Eleanor” is one of three still existing hero cars that played a major role in the film. Hero Cars are fully functional film vehicles in which the main actors in the film could also be seen in close-up. Originally, eleven film vehicles were made for production, but only the three hero cars “survived”.
The design legends Steve Stanford and Chip Foose developed the “Eleanor” with the intention of completely reinterpreting an old 1967 Shelby GT500 classic. And they succeeded across the board.
Today, the last three “Eleanor” Hero Cars still in existence are probably among the most valuable and desirable examples in the film vehicle family. One of them has been part of the ChromeCars family since 2017.

Cadillac Unveiled at the virtual CES 2021, its VTOL concept is an all-electric
During General Motors’ (GM) CES 2021 keynote, it showed off a new series of concept products under the Cadillac brand. The concept is made up of a passenger VTOL drone and an autonomous car to get you and your friends to and from locations and drones.
While it has yet to happen, a number of companies are expecting commuters to take the skies in the coming years. Count Cadillac among them. Unveiled at the virtual CES 2021, its VTOL concept is an all-electric, fully autonomous single-seat drone.
While these are just concepts and will likely not represent the finished product, they are still great to see. Seeing electric autonomous cars and drones from a company as large as GM is an important step to helping the world move into an electric and driverless future.
