AERODINÁMICA

Se ha hecho especial hincapié en el estudio y diseño de la aerodinámica, ya que son dos factores en los que nos hemos apoyado para la construcción de todo el coche, lo que lo convierte en la actualidad en el mejor vehículo después de la F1.

A velocidades de más de 500 km en condiciones de pista, para lograr el tiempo de giro máximo, todo debe estar perfectamente diseñado y debemos agotar todo el margen de mejora.

El spoiler delantero proporciona una carga aerodinámica total de 2.780 N y una resistencia total de 408 N y una eficiencia aerodinámica: Ci / Cd = 6.813, números y proporciones que solo se pueden encontrar en los autos de F1.

El piso también está diseñado de manera innovadora, con el fin de aprovechar el efecto Venturi, es decir, la diferencia de presión y velocidad de la parte superior del automóvil con la inferior y minimizar la elevación del automóvil y empujarlo al suelo con mayor fuerza en combinación con el gran difusor.

112 years on from the birth of Bugatti in Molsheim, France, three defining elements remain central to the brand’s customer offering: heritage, innovation and the finest craftsmanship. With the world’s greatest minds in engineering and design, new paradigms in performance are paired with never-before-seen levels of personalization, and today – in response to ever-increasing customer demand – Bugatti formalizes its bespoke customization program: ‘Bugatti Sur Mesure’.

Translated as “tailored”, Bugatti Sur Mesure builds upon the marque’s distinguished history of coachbuilding, handcrafted interiors, paint finishes, embroidery and bodywork, gathering the collective expertise of its skilled designers and engineers to form a brand-new program to meet growing customer demand for ultra-customized designs, materials and finishes.

As part of the official program, with one-to-one support from the Bugatti Sur Mesure Team, customers will be guided through the world of possibilities open to them. When configuring a Bugatti, the sheer number of exterior colors and leather finishes is nearly unlimited, but for those who wish to take a further step and create a truly unique piece of personalized automotive art, Bugatti Sur Mesure is at their disposal. From initial design concept through to vehicle production and final handover, customers will receive the full Molsheim experience.

Expanding upon excellence

In recent years, Bugatti has showcased the depth of its ability to personalize its hyper sports cars to an ever-greater degree. Setting new standards in 2013, the Veyron ‘Les Légendes de Bugatti’ series saw six exclusive model editions, each personalized with unique exterior and interior finishes, celebrating individual heroes of the marque.

2019 witnessed the arrival of the Chiron ‘Zebra 1 of 1’ – a special commission for a customer in Qatar. Featuring an elaborate Titanic Blue and Gunpower Grey color scheme, the hyper sports car was hand painted by Bugatti’s talented craftspeople over the course of more than three weeks.

2021 saw the now-famous Divo ‘Lady Bug’ come to epitomize the true extent to which Bugatti is able to intricately customize its hyper sports cars. A highly complex geometric-dynamic algorithmic fading pattern was developed over 18 months for the Divo’s bodywork, illustrating how Bugatti is continuing to push the boundaries in making customers’ visions become reality.

A source of inspiration

Now, Bugatti Sur Mesure unveils its first customer project, a Chiron Pur Sport inspired by the 20th century heroics of renowned racing driver, Louis Chiron. The legend of the Bugatti brand continues to resonate with customers and passionate fans of the marque across the globe. Early racing pioneers who piloted Bugatti’s prototype racing cars continue to fascinate and are admired for their bravery and talent displayed on-track. Today, their spirit lives on and is the very source of the custom design of the unique Chiron Pur Sport.

Among Louis Chiron’s countless victories at the wheel of a Bugatti was his legendary 1931 win at the French Grand Prix, together with Achille Varzi, in a Bugatti Type 51 emblazoned with the number ‘32’.

This number – painted entirely by hand – now proudly adorns Bugatti’s modern hyper sports car as just one of a number of custome-made elements developed especially for this customer. Two new exterior colors were created to pay homage to the legendary Grand Prix racing Bugattis of the ‘20s and ‘30s.

The Bugatti Sur Mesure team also developed a new fading ‘EB’ painted pattern, applied meticulously by hand, which is complemented by a multi-layer stitched ‘EB’ motif on the door panels. Both required new techniques and processes to be developed by the Bugatti Sur Mesure team.

The ‘32’ and ‘Grand Prix’ motifs continue throughout the cabin, including a special center console inlay in black anodized aluminum, with a silver hand-painted inscription. The motifs extend to the door sills, headrests and entry lights. Subtle branding distinguishing the model as a rare and unique product of the program can also be found.

Hendrik Malinowski, Bugatti’s Managing Director for Sales and Marketing, comments: “For many years, we have worked with our clients to create their own personal vision of the ultimate hyper sports car. It has always been a highly tailored process, but as an ever-increasing number of our clients request detailed and intricate customization, the launch of Bugatti Sur Mesure will ensure we can cater to their desires with the perfect level of detail required from a Bugatti.

“Our clients are often deeply intrigued by Bugatti’s motorsport lineage, and it’s fitting that the first Sur Mesure commission should pay homage to one of our great racing icons. We’re so taken with this creation that we intend to make many of this customer’s ideas available to more of our clients with the Chiron Pur Sport.”

INTRODUCTION

The desire for self-expression is fundamental to the human condition.  It is one of the principal reasons clients are drawn to Rolls-Royce, which offers matchless opportunities to push boundaries, redefine what’s possible and challenge established convention.

Our Black Badge series of motor cars captures this spirit in extremis.  And today, we look at how individualism, iconoclasm and even outright rebellion pervaded the marque’s history from its inception and continues to inform the unique offer Rolls‑Royce extends to its contemporary clients.

Although their backgrounds could hardly have been more different, the company’s founders both successfully challenged norms and conventions that might otherwise have bound them to unthinkable mediocrity.

Henry Royce overcame poverty, deprivation and a lack of formal education to become a world-class engineer who created ‘the best cars in the world’, eventually being ennobled for his achievements.  Cambridge-educated The Hon. Charles Stewart Rolls was born an aristocrat: he could have chosen a life of ease, indolence and privilege, but opted instead for the grease, grime and frequent peril of early motor-racing and aviation, becoming a leading pioneer in both fields.

Today, we would call them ‘disruptors’ – outliers, visionaries and subversives who shape the world by doing things in ways no one else ever dreams – or dares – to try.  No wonder then, that the marque has always proved so beguiling to others who share their rebellious nature.

The Black Badge family of Rolls-Royce motor cars, launched in 2016, is the ultimate expression of this spirit of individualism, self-expression, creativity and iconoclasm.  And while clients have a virtually unlimited choice of exterior finishes, one colour above all still consistently exerts a special fascination and powerful allure when applied to our motor cars – just as it has throughout the marque’s long history.  Black.

The colour black has long been associated with power, strength and authority.  It is intense and substantial. Black also speaks of elegance and confidence.

Over the decades, there have been many notable examples of bespoke Rolls-Royce motor cars finished in black.  Each of the following examples, spanning more than 30 years, has a unique place in the marque’s history, and demonstrates how its owner took the all-black theme in a unique and memorable direction.

1933 – Phantom II Continental (94MY)

In 1930, at the personal request of Henry Royce, designer Ivan Evernden penned an experimental Phantom II Continental, designated 26EX, designed specifically for long-distance Continental touring.  It had a short chassis and close-coupled four-seat saloon body, with the two spare wheels mounted vertically behind the luggage compartment for optimum weight distribution.  The coachwork, erected by Barker & Co, sat on a sub-frame designed to cope with sustained high speeds and powerful braking forces.

On its first outing, Evernden and Don Carlos de Salamanca drove the car to a concours d’elegance in Biarritz, where it won the Grand Prix d’Honneur.  Following this victory, Rolls‑Royce decided to launch a ‘series’ model with the same mechanical attributes and overall coachwork dimensions as 26EX, giving coachbuilders and owners scope to accommodate their own taste in design.

The first such car, 94MY, built in 1933 for a Mr Samuel Coxhill, has bodywork known as an ‘Owen Fixed Head Coupé’, a specialism of London coachbuilder Gurney Nutting. The adjustable front bucket seats, twin windscreen wipers and flush-fitting direction-indicators behind the side windows were all unusual for the period and intended to make long-distance Continental touring more relaxed.

Designer Ivan Evernden declared: “It is the criterion of a good car that one can drive it the whole day long and at the end feel fresh and relaxed enough to enjoy dinner”.

At that time, the vast majority of Rolls-Royce coachwork was finished in either black, or shades of maroon or blue, so dark as to almost seem black.  94MY was ordered in black with “special brown leather, piped in light brown, carpets and headlining to tone, and woodwork to be highly polished veneers”.  Combining high performance with superlative comfort and a unique personalised finish, if any 1930s Rolls-Royce could lay claim to embodying the spirit of today’s Black Badge, it is this one.

1960 – Phantom V (5AT30)

The Phantom V was launched in 1959 to replace the venerable Silver Wraith.  A much larger car, it was intended primarily for chauffeur-driven use, and all but a very few bodies were of limousine design.  Most were finished in black, and used either on formal occasions, or for private use by members of the wealthy establishment.

One exception was 5AT30.  Delivered in September 1960, its proud owner was HRH The Duke of Gloucester, third son of King George V and Queen Mary, and uncle to HM Queen Elizabeth II.  The body was based on coachbuilder James Young’s PV15 design, today regarded as among the most elegant on the Phantom V chassis.

Although about as ‘establishment’ as it’s possible to be, His Royal Highness clearly had strong ideas about what he wanted in his Phantom V.  His most obvious departure from the accepted norm is the paint combination of matte black to the horizontal surfaces and gloss black on the vertical planes.

Other Bespoke items include a much smaller-than-standard backlight, large foglamps, door-mounted driving mirrors, sliding shutters to the rear windows and two Stephane Grebel spotlights. The front of the car is dominated by Lucas R100 headlamps, in place of the usual faired-in headlights.

The Spirit of Ecstasy mascot, though supplied, was not fitted, her place taken by the Duke’s own mascot of an eagle in flight.  And perhaps for the first time in the marque’s history, the chassis card states that the car was supplied with ‘an umbrella in holder’ – a standard feature on today’s Rolls-Royce motor cars.

On 30 January 1965, the Duke and Duchess were travelling home from Sir Winston Churchill’s funeral when the car skidded off the road and down a shallow embankment, turning over three times and landing on its roof!  None of the occupants suffered serious injury; and such was the resilience of the James Young coachwork that 5AT30 was rebuilt and continued to render sterling service to its owner for years to come.

1965 – Phantom V (5VD73)

In 1964, The Beatles stormed the world with A Hard Day’s Night.  In December, as a gift to himself, John Lennon ordered a brand-new Rolls-Royce Phantom V from R. S. Mead of Maidenhead.  The specification was, as one might expect, highly individual: he wanted the car not just to be black, but black everywhere, inside and out, including all the brightwork that would normally be finished in chromium plate or stainless steel.

The car, built by Mulliner Park Ward, was duly supplied with all-black gloss paintwork, including the wheel discs and bumpers.  Only the iconic Pantheon grille and Spirit of Ecstasy mascot retained their conventional chrome finish, at the marque’s insistence.

It was also one of the first cars in Britain to have blacked-out windows, made from darkened, reflective Triplex Deeplight glass, 3/16” thick in the rear doors and 3/4” in the rear quarterlights, backlite and division glass – but not, as one might suppose, solely for reasons of privacy.  “People think they’ve got black windows to hide.  It’s partly that, but it’s also for when you’re coming home late,” Lennon told a Rolling Stone interviewer in 1965.  “If it’s daylight when you’re coming home, it’s still dark inside the car – you just shut all the windows and you’re still in the club.”

The interior featured black Bedford cord cloth and black nylon rugs in the rear compartment, and black leather in the front.  There were electrical aerials for a radio and a Perdio Portarma television set, and a seven-piece set of black fitted luggage. Legend has it that the car also had a record player, radio telephone, fridge, writing table and red mood-lighting: this remains unproven, but could easily have been later additions; likewise, a rear seat that, according to many accounts, could be converted into a pull-out bed.

Such bold, imaginative and unconventional choices are, of course, entirely consistent with Lennon’s status as one of the 20th Century’s greatest cultural innovators.  Quite apart from changing the face of popular music forever, he’s also credited with being among the first non-athletes to wear trainers as footwear, away from sporting grounds, much like the streetwear phenomenon that pervades the catwalks and boardrooms of the 21st century.  In a photograph of the Fab Four taken in 1967, Lennon is wearing what appears to be a pair of Adidas Stan Smith tennis shoes – still one of the most desirable designs from ‘the brand with three stripes’ more than half a century later.

Later, the car was repainted in a game-changing, vivid psychedelic electric yellow, embellished with flowers, Romany scrolls and signs of the zodiac.  It is wholly unique, indelibly identified with its owner and, in certain quarters, generated its share of controversy – perhaps the perfect encapsulation of the Black Badge spirit.

That unquenchable spirit continues to be expressed in new and dynamic ways through the ever-evolving Rolls-Royce Black Badge family.

El nuevo GTS será el primer Taycan con una autonomía superior a los 500 km

En el Salón del Automóvil de Los Ángeles debutan la tercera variante de carrocería del Taycan, el Sport Turismo, junto con la versión GTS, primera en superar los 500 km de autonomía en el ciclo WLTP. Esta nueva versión GTS se puede combinar con el Taycan y con el recién llegado Sport Turismo.

Las siglas GTS hacen referencia a Gran Turismo Sport. Desde el Porsche 904 Carrera GTS de 1963, estas tres letras han tenido un significado especial para los fans de Porsche. Ahora, hay siempre una variante que lleva esta legendaria combinación de letras a cada gama de modelos Porsche. En el Salón del Automóvil de Los Ángeles (19 – 28 de noviembre de 2021), Porsche presenta una nueva versión de su vehículo eléctrico deportivo con el acrónimo GTS. Este modelo es el primer Taycan en superar la barrera de los 500 kilómetros de autonomía, concretamente, hasta 504 km según las cifras de homologación WLTP.

Además, una tercera variante de carrocería del primer Porsche cien por cien eléctrico se estrena en el Salón del Automóvil de Los Ángeles: el Taycan GTS Sport Turismo. El recién llegado comparte su silueta deportiva y la línea de techo inclinada hacia la parte trasera con el Taycan Cross Turismo.

“La gama Taycan ha crecido de manera constante desde su estreno mundial en 2019. Tres variantes de carrocería con hasta cinco opciones de motor ofrecen la alternativa adecuada para cada necesidad”, explica Kevin Giek, Vicepresidente de la Gama Taycan. “Estoy muy satisfecho de que ahora tengamos también un Taycan con las legendarias siglas de GTS. Se sitúa en un lugar intermedio dentro de la gama, por encima del Taycan 4S y por debajo del Taycan Turbo”.

Los precios finales en España del Taycan GTS y el Taycan GTS Sport Turismo son de 135.264 y 136.232 euros, respectivamente. Ambas versiones llegarán a los Centros Porsche en la primavera de 2022. Más adelante habrá nuevas opciones mecánicas para el Sport Turismo.

Taycan GTS: el toque deportivo de la gama Taycan

El Taycan GTS es el modelo deportivo polivalente de la gama. Tiene una impresionante potencia de 598 caballos (440 kW) con overboost cuando se utiliza el Launch Control y acelera de 0 a 100 km/h en 3,7 segundos, con cualquiera de las dos carrocerías. La velocidad máxima de ambos es de 250 km/h.

Taycan GTS.

Como representante de la última generación del Taycan, el GTS tiene una estrategia de propulsión realmente eficiente. Las otras variantes del Taycan también han recibido esta última actualización, con la que, entre otras cosas, se amplía la autonomía.

La suspensión neumática adaptativa incluye el sistema de amortiguación Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) específicamente adaptado al GTS para lograr la mejor dinámica lateral. La puesta a punto de la dirección opcional para el eje trasero también es más deportiva. El sonido del Porsche Electric Sport Sound se ha modificado para resaltar el carácter del nuevo GTS.

El interior y el exterior tienen algunas diferencias. Por fuera encontramos numerosos detalles acabados en un tono oscuro o negro, como el faldón delantero, la base de los retrovisores exteriores y el marco de las ventanillas laterales, como es tradición en todos los GTS. En el habitáculo, el tejido Race-Tex en negro y el pack de aluminio cepillado con una terminación en negro anodizado subrayan la elegancia y el dinamismo del modelo.

Taycan Sport Turismo: lo mejor de ambos Taycan

La incorporación del Taycan Sport Turismo supone la llegada de la tercera variante de carrocería a la familia. La nueva versión está dirigida a quienes desean una versatilidad similar a la que ofrece el Cross Turismo, pero no quieren perderse el rendimiento en carretera de la berlina deportiva.

El Taycan Sport Turismo comparte la silueta deportiva, la línea de techo descendente hacia atrás y el diseño funcional del Taycan Cross Turismo. La altura al techo en la parte trasera es más de 45 milímetros mayor que en la berlina deportiva y la capacidad de carga bajo el gran portón posterior es de más de 1.200 litros. Pero, a diferencia del Taycan Cross Turismo, no tiene elementos de diseño todoterreno.

Techo panorámico con control de luz solar: transparente o mate con un solo toque

Como nueva opción para el Taycan GTS se ofrece un techo panorámico con control de luz solar. Una película de cristal líquido conmutable eléctricamente puede cambiar el techo de transparente a mate. Así protege a los ocupantes del sol, sin oscurecer el interior.

El techo está dividido en nueve segmentos que se pueden ajustar individualmente, una primicia en el sector de la automoción. Además de la configuración clara y mate, también se pueden seleccionar una intermedia y otra más oscura. Todos estos patrones están predefinidos con segmentos anchos o estrechos.

Sealy, Texas – High-performance vehicle specialist Hennessey Special Vehicles has announced it has sold all its Venom F5 hypercars. The Texas-based company showed a pair of Venom F5 customer cars at Monterey Car week where orders were confirmed for the remaining models of the 24-vehicle run.

The F5 pair were shown at The Quail – A Motorsports Gathering, the Pebble Beach Concours and McCall’s Motorworks Revival at the week-long celebration of all things automotive in California. Tens of thousands of fans joined Hennessey customers in admiring the ‘performance follows function’ form of the F5 along with its luxurious, driver-focused interior.

John Hennessey, company founder and CEO: “Showing two of the latest F5 models at The Quail and Pebble Beach alongside the likes of Bugatti, Lamborghini and Koenigsegg was an honor for the whole Hennessey team. The fact that we secured orders from customers who saw the cars at the events is testament to the quality our team has achieved… and we’re yet to reach the vehicle’s full potential!”

Hennessey’s $2.1M twin-turbocharged, 6.6-liter V8 hypercar boasts 1,817 hp and 1,193 lb-ft of torque making it the most powerful hypercar ever made. Hennessey’s team focused on quality of workmanship, and simplicity of design and engineering to deliver a hypercar without peers.

With the show season drawing to a close, the engineering team may return to final validation testing on roads and racing circuits. The final phase of testing will see the team refine the car’s full-power acceleration, high-speed stability and braking. Once the engineering team signs-off this final development phase, Hennessey has its sights set on a top speed surpassing 311 mph (500 kph).

The Venom F5 is an all-new hypercar designed and built from the ground up with one goal in mind: To be the absolute fastest road car on earth.

Hennessey and team have developed a completely new design, chassis and carbon fiber body focused on aerodynamics to achieve the lowest possible drag. The exterior of the F5 is shaped by aerodynamics and inspired by the pursuit of speed. The rear-wheel drive F5 produces 1,817 hp and weighs a mere 1,360 kg (2,998 lb). These facts combine to deliver a power-to-weight ratio of 1.34 hp-per-kg (1,298 hp-per-ton) – well in excess of any road car on sale today. As a key strength of the F5, its tremendous power and lightweight construction help to shape the extreme, visceral and untameable nature of the F5 as an unstoppable force in the hypercar world.

The F5 is powered by a rear-mid-mounted 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that generates 1,817 hp at 8,000 rpm. This power, 277 hp/liter, in a car that weighs just 1,360 kg (2,998 lb) generates a power-to-weight ratio of 1.34 hp/kg (1,298 hp/ton) – the highest of any road car.
