Emirates SkyCargo cumple un año de operaciones de carga en aviones de pasajeros

Emirates SkyCargo fue una de las primeras compañías aéreas de carga del mundo en introducir vuelos de carga en aviones de pasajeros para transportar EPI y otros suministros esenciales

Dubái, EAU, 16 de marzo de 2021 – El pasado lunes 16 de marzo de 2020, el vuelo EK 2503 de Emirates despegó de Dubái con destino a Kuwait. Si bien estuvo operado con un avión de pasajeros Boeing 777-300ER, el EK 2503 no llevaba pasajeros, sino alrededor de 34 toneladas de carga en la bodega que se necesitaba urgentemente en Kuwait.

Era la primera vez en la historia de sus operaciones que Emirates operaba un vuelo solo de carga en un avión de pasajeros. El despegue del EK 2503, que se produjo tan solo cuatro días después de que la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) declarara la pandemia de la COVID-19, sería el primero de los más de 27.800 vuelos de carga que operó Emirates SkyCargo en el año que siguió, mientras la compañía de carga trabajaba incesantemente para mantener a las comunidades de todo el mundo conectadas con los suministros médicos y alimentarios esenciales durante la pandemia.

Nabil Sultan, vicepresidente senior de la división de carga de Emirates, ha comentado: “Ha pasado exactamente un año desde que lo que se consideraba imposible en el sector de la carga aérea se convirtió no solo en una realidad, sino en un sólido pilar operativo para Emirates SkyCargo. Antes de la pandemia, casi dos tercios de nuestra carga total se transportaba en la bodega de nuestros vuelos de pasajeros. Con el aumento de las suspensiones de vuelos y las restricciones de los viajes de pasajeros impuestas por la COVID-19 a principios de marzo de 2020, podíamos prever una situación en la que ya no habría capacidad de carga adecuada en el mercado para transportar suministros esenciales”.

“Para reforzar la capacidad de carga que ofrecen nuestros 11 Boeing 777 de carga y asegurarnos de que podíamos satisfacer la demanda urgente de mercancías como EPI, ventiladores y otros productos farmacéuticos y suministros alimentarios de todo el mundo, elaboramos de forma proactiva un plan radical e innovador para utilizar nuestros aviones de pasajeros de fuselaje ancho para operar vuelos solo de carga. Probamos este concepto de avión de carga de pasajeros con un vuelo a Kuwait el 16 de marzo del año pasado. En las semanas siguientes, cuando las operaciones regulares de pasajeros se suspendieron por completo, empezamos a aumentar nuestros vuelos de carga de pasajeros hasta el punto que teníamos cerca de 90 aviones de pasajeros que se utilizaban para operaciones de carga”, explica Sultan.

Y añade: “Nuestro equipo trabajó incansablemente para desarrollar un nuevo modelo de negocio desde el principio buscando las aprobaciones de las autoridades, elaborando una nueva red de rutas, redactando nuevas directrices operativas y de seguridad y hablando con nuestros clientes de todo el mundo para asegurarnos de que, como compañía aérea socialmente responsable, podíamos mantener el suministro esencial de carga en los mercados y, al mismo tiempo, sostener las exportaciones en todo el mundo en unas condiciones económicas difíciles. Nuestra estrategia de transporte de pasajeros ha sido la columna vertebral de nuestras operaciones durante la pandemia, transportando carga a más de 125 destinos en todos los continentes. Ha demostrado nuestra resistencia como facilitador global del comercio y de las cadenas de suministro. Con la reanudación y el crecimiento de las operaciones de pasajeros, hemos empezado a avanzar gradualmente hacia nuestro modelo tradicional, pero nuestros aviones de carga de pasajeros siguen siendo un componente importante de la respuesta a la pandemia de la COVID-19.”

Para satisfacer la demanda mundial de transporte de EPI y suministros esenciales, Emirates SkyCargo siguió con la introducción de los servicios cargueros de pasajeros mediante otras innovaciones, como la carga en los asientos de los pasajeros y en los compartimentos superiores dentro de la cabina de pasajeros, así como la introducción de “minicargueros”, que eran aviones Boeing 777-300ER a los que se les habían quitado los asientos de Economy Class para tener más espacio para transportar la carga. Actualmente, Emirates SkyCargo cuenta con 16 Boeing 777-300ER minicargueros para operaciones de carga.

Emirates SkyCargo ha operado más de 27.800 vuelos solo de carga en aviones de pasajeros durante el último año. Estos vuelos han ayudado a transportar más de 100.000 toneladas de suministros esenciales, incluyendo EPI, kits de pruebas de la COVID-19, ventiladores, productos farmacéuticos, vacunas y alimentos. Esto equivale a la carga transportada en 1000 vuelos completos en el avión de carga Boeing 777.

Los vuelos de Emirates SkyCargo ayudaron a mantener la seguridad alimentaria en una serie de mercados que dependen de las importaciones, al tiempo que proporcionaron una fuente de ingresos a las comunidades que dependen de las exportaciones agrícolas. La compañía aérea de carga también operó un número récord de vuelos chárter utilizando aviones de pasajeros exclusivamente para el transporte de carga.

Emirates SkyCargo ha liderado la respuesta del sector mundial de la carga aérea para la distribución de las vacunas de la COVID-19. La compañía de carga aérea ha creado en Dubái un centro de distribución de vacunas para la COVID-19 con certificación GDP y también se ha asociado con importantes entidades con sede en Dubái y con UNICEF para el transporte rápido de vacunas de la COVID-19 a países en desarrollo a través de Dubái. Los cargueros de pasajeros de Emirates SkyCargo también han desempeñado un papel fundamental en el transporte de las vacunas de la COVID-19.

Emirates y TAP Air Portugal firman un memorando de entendimiento para ampliar su asociación estratégica

Los clientes de ambas aerolíneas se beneficiarán de más destinos de código compartido en América, el norte de África y el este de Asia, así como de más conexiones nacionales en Portugal

Dubái, EAU, 15 de marzo de 2021 – Emirates y TAP Air Portugal han firmado un Memorando de Entendimiento (MoU) para ampliar la asociación de código compartido que actualmente existe entre ambas aerolíneas.

El nuevo acuerdo hará que sus clientes se beneficien de una conectividad excelente en numerosas nuevas rutas a través de América, el norte de África y el este de Asia. Emirates y TAP Air Portugal también explorarán formas de mejorar la cooperación en sus respectivos programas de viajeros frecuentes, incluyendo oportunidades recíprocas de ganancia y canje y beneficios populares como el acceso a las salas de espera.

Además, ambas aerolíneas planean apoyar los programas de escala de la otra en Dubái y Lisboa. Emirates también respaldará a TAP Air Portugal en su búsqueda de potenciales oportunidades de expansión en los EAU.

Sujeto a las aprobaciones regulatorias necesarias, se prevé que el acuerdo ampliado entre en vigor a partir del 1 de mayo de 2021. Este proporcionará a los clientes reservas, emisión de billetes y ventajas de viaje sin fisuras en 70 destinos de las redes de ambas aerolíneas.

Adnan Kazim, director comercial de Emirates, ha comentado: “Emirates y TAP Air Portugal han disfrutado de una asociación de código compartido mutuamente exitosa durante los últimos ocho años. Estamos encantados de ampliar esta relación y esperamos ofrecer aún más beneficios a nuestros clientes.”

Arik De, director de redes y revenue de TAP Air Portugal, ha expresado: “TAP Air Portugal se complace en mejorar su asociación con Emirates, permitiendo a nuestros clientes un mayor acceso geográfico. Estamos deseando llevar a los clientes de Emirates a más ciudades dentro de Portugal, a nuestros destinos en América y el norte de África, y que se beneficien de nuestro programa Stopover Portugal.”

En el marco de la ampliación de la asociación, TAP Air Portugal colocará su código en los vuelos de Emirates a destinos populares de Asia Oriental como Taipéi, Tokio, Osaka, Mumbai, Delhi, Dhaka, Malé, Yakarta, Denpasar, Manila, Hanoi, Barcelona y Ciudad de México.

Los clientes de Emirates podrán acceder a otros destinos nacionales en Portugal, así como a los vuelos de TAP Air Portugal a ciudades de Estados Unidos, Canadá, México, Brasil, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Marruecos, Túnez, Gambia y Cabo Verde.
