Najiba – takes home top honour at 2020 World Superyacht Awards

Najiba, the 58-metre motor yacht designed by Vitruvius Yachts, has taken home the World Superyacht Award as best “Displacement Motor Yachts Between 500GT and 999GT”. Launched in January 2019 by Dutch shipyard Feadship, she is a masterpiece in design and engineering, with naval architecture from Philippe Briand Ltd in France. The explorer yacht carries the distinctive style for which Vitruvius Yachts has become known, and which has been imitated but never equalled by other designers.

In their brief, the owners of Najiba requested that Vitruvius Yachts create a striking yacht that resembled a sculpture, with perfect proportions and a timeless elegance, rather than focusing on length or opulence. She provides a superlative place to live, and a happy experience for all on board.

The design and construction of Najiba were highly mindful of her impact on the environment, based on three axes of working towards sustainability. From an architectural perspective, through smart design Vitruvius Yachts reduced consumption by an estimated 25%. During construction, Feadship made significant efforts to minimise the quantity of materials used in order to eliminate waste wherever possible. And thirdly, the systems installed on board – for example heating and air conditioning – were purposely chosen to maximise efficiency and minimise consumption.

The Vitruvius Yachts team would like to thank the World Superyacht Awards jury for their recognition of Najiba’s singularity,” comments Philippe Briand. “Najiba holds a special place in the hearts of our team members because of the warm relationships that we had the privilege to build up during the five years that we worked on the project, first and foremost with the owners’ family. We also wish to express our gratitude to owner’s representative Peter Wilson of MCM, and the Feadship team, who were unwaveringly professional and open to requests at all times, even though they were often challenging.”

About Najiba

Najiba’s exceptional fuel efficiency and range received particular praise at the time of her completion. The outstanding performance is thanks to Briand’s unique fast hull design with input from eminent Dutch naval architects De Voogt Naval Architects.

During sea trials, she achieved a best fuel burn of 11.4 litres (3.0 gallons) per nautical mile at 12 knots, which Feadship commented was 20 to 25 per cent lower than most motor yachts of her size. Najiba’s top speed during sea trials was 17 knots, a full knot more than predicted, and her calculated best range was over 6,000 nautical miles (1,000 nautical miles more than expected).

With her sleek and well-balanced profile, and a characteristic vertical bow, Najiba is every inch a Vitruvius in looks as well as performance. The second full-aluminium yacht to be built at Feadship, she features two master staterooms for both the owners and four further staterooms for eight guests, tended to by up to 14 permanent crew. Her understated interior design by Liaigre has been coined as “a whitewashed villa on the beach” by Briand.
